I'm sure I mentioned it on here that I was becoming re-interested in art and I was trying to become better at drawing. I guess I'm over that faze now. Its due to several reasons, one being an interesting point that I read, it explained that even if you are not perusing art as an occupation, to get as good as the pros you're going to have to draw full time any way. And that's not really what I want to do. Also, ironically what has put me off art is The Art Assignment on YouTube. They focus on modern art and I know it makes me old fashioned, but I don't like it. I don't hate it like some people, but its really not my thing. I don't think nontraditional performance art is very interesting, I don't really care about how art is made. There is one video about how to visit an art museum. That really frustrated me (for lack of a better term). The hostess suggested reading the cards next to the work to get context, but many people in the comments section said they didn't like this. That it was irrelevant, it disconnected them from the art and it made it like a history museum. That last part interested me. I like the cards exactly because of that. I like context. I like to know where thing fit in. I like history.
In college it doubtful that I will ever take a history class, even thought I like it. Recently I signed up for The Big History Project. I've only done one unit so far, but I do like it. It seems as though there is a lot of focus on the origin of life (6 out of 8 units) rather than human history, which is what I'm really interested in, but its important so I'll see it through. I'm also looking for "readable history books" aka not textbooks.
