A new library opened near me. Its called Library 21c. I don't really know how I feel about it.
I went with my mom (of course) and she wasn't really impressed, so it kind of rubbed off on me.
There aren't a ton of books, because the top floor is being used as a "maker space". They have a bunch of computers, some for gaming even, a 3-D printer, a laser engraver, a video studio (with green screen), sewing machines, a printing center, and lots of classes. All of this is cool and all, but I don't know how I'm actually going to use this stuff. First off I've never entertained the idea of having access to a laser, so I don't know what I'd do with it. But also, typical of the library all events and classes are during the week. I really don't understand this. I don't have transportation during the week and I know most people don't have time. I'm not sure what this entails, but "fabrication projects that require hand or power tools, emit fumes, or use advanced machinery" require you to take a class before you can use them. They too are only on weekdays, and not even on Friday.
Its really frustrating knowing I have access to such cool stuff, but not being able to get to it, especially now when I'm trying to have a Fun Summer, but kinda failing by sitting around my house all day.
